About Bown

So What is the Bowen Technique?

The Technique consists of a series of rolling type moves over the skin and soft tissue using the fingers and thumbs.  Precise parts of the body are selected with the aim being to disturb the muscles, soft tissue and energy within the body.  The moves are very gentle and the client should experience little or no discomfort during treatment.  Between moves there is a gap of several minutes where the client is left resting this allows the body to absorb the gentle moves so it can make it’s own subtle and fine adjustments.

What does the Bowen Technique safely treat ?

Problems such as back and neck pain, knee problems, sports injuries, RSI, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and respiratory  complaints.  Conditions such as chronic fatigue, hey fever, headache, digestive and kidney problems.  Some people use the treatment as a means of stress/tension management.  The Bowen Technique also addresses many other conditions.  It is generally regarded as safe and effective for people of all ages.

How does it work ?

The brain sends millions of electrical signals each second out into the body, checking on things such as blood pressure, temperature, muscle tension etc.  Coded information is returned from parts of the body  to a different part of the brain which de-codes and passes it back to the sender.   The Bowen move is easily understood If you think of this sequence as forming a loop in the shape of a giant figure 8, when the move is made it causes a blip, a bit like a radar screen blip, which creates a disturbance in the signals.  The brain now has to deal with this interrupted signal by focusing on the source.  The sympathetic nervous system causes the muscles relax and increases blood and  lymph activity in the surrounding area.  Nerve endings are elevated to a high state of alert whilst the brain tries to sort out if there are any problems.  This process may take several minutes

So basically the Bowen therapist is providing the body with a signal that makes the brain revisit the problem areas and more often than not facilitate an improvement in the acute or chronic problems that may be there
